Lucknow, September 24, 2026: If you took part in Round 2 of Uttar Pradesh NEET UG counselling, choice filling officially closed today at 11 AM. If you locked in your preferences, the next thing to watch for is the seat allotment result, due on September 25. The Directorate of Medical Education (DGME) is running this round for MBBS and BDS admissions through the official portal.

This is actually a revised schedule. The original Round 2 calendar had been postponed on September 17. After some back-and-forth between the government and DGME around September 19–20, a new timeline was issued: the State Merit List came out on September 21, choice filling ran till 11 AM on September 24, allotment is set for September 25, and admission will run from September 26 to October 1.

How many candidates and seats are in the mix?

The Round 2 State Merit List, published on September 21, includes 33,043 registered candidates. But remember, just being on this list doesn't mean you have a seat — allotment will depend on your rank, category, the choices you locked, and the seats actually available.

The tentative Round 2 seat matrix lists 3,656 MBBS and BDS seats spread across 116 institutions. Of these, 3,108 are MBBS seats (370 government and 2,738 private) and 548 are BDS seats (26 government and 522 private). In total, that's 396 government seats and 3,260 private-sector seats up for grabs. The 26 government BDS seats are all at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, KGMU Lucknow.

Four government colleges are missing from this round

You won't find Government Medical Colleges at Ambedkar Nagar, Kannauj, Jalaun and Saharanpur in the current Round 2 matrix. Following a state government direction on September 19, these four colleges have been kept out of Round 2 and future rounds for now, while related legal proceedings are ongoing. However, admissions already completed at these colleges in Round 1 have been allowed to stand.

This is connected to an order from the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) on September 16, which stayed an arrangement giving roughly 91% reservation at these four colleges, while allowing counselling to continue as usual at other government medical colleges under the reservation rules already in place there. Treat this as background information, and go only by the official notices for anything related to eligibility.

Things worth remembering

The counselling portal makes it clear that you need to lock your choices after filling them in — simply filling preferences without locking can leave you out of allotment altogether. Once choices are locked, they generally can't be changed, so reviewing the preference order carefully before the 11 AM cut-off mattered a lot.

Security money depends on which seat pool you're in — typically ₹30,000 for government medical/dental seats, ₹2 lakh for private medical, and ₹1 lakh for private dental. If you hadn't deposited the required amount, you wouldn't have been eligible for choice filling.

The September 25 allotment will be based on the Round 2 State Merit List, not the Round 1 list. If you get allotted a seat, download your allotment letter and complete admission between September 26 and October 1, carrying your NEET documents, Class 10 and 12 certificates, identity proof, domicile/category papers (if applicable), payment receipts and any other documents your allotted college asks for.
